Use the following command in the Terminal to login to a remote server: ssh -p 22 server administrators will change the port number that the SSH server is running on.Now that you've created an SSH key pair you can use them to log into remote servers running the SSH service. The system will now take your input and use it to generate a key pair for you. Enter the password or passphrase a second time or hit the Enter key again is you've chosen not to use a password.Only do this if you plan on uploading your key to a remote server that you control and don't want to be bothered with typing in a password when you login. Note: You also have the option of not entering a password and just hitting the Enter key. Next, the keygen app will ask you to enter a password or passphrase.Press the Enter key to accept the default location. Enter the following command in the Terminal window: ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096 -C The keygen app will ask where you want to save the key.The first thing you need to do is generate a brand new SSH key pair. Instead, we can use MacOS's built-in tools to accomplish the same task. As MacOS users we no longer need third-party software to do this. As Windows users we had to use PuTTY in order to connect to another machine/server using SSH or Telnet. These questions are mostly from Windows users who have recently received Macs and are uncertain what software is available to them. Over the past few weeks I've seen several threads pop up in various Mac forums about installing PuTTY.
